Preparing to colonize Mars

A great trait that characterizes most humans is our curiosity. In this case the curiosity of what it would be like to live on another planet, such as Mars and thus ensure the survival of humankind. This last reason is primarily the one that drives the colonization of Mars and according to Musk, during the next century we will get a self-sufficient colony on that planet.

Within the National park of Hawaii is a volcano: Mauna Loa. This will be the new home for a group of people living in conditions that are almost identical to those of Mars. NASA wants to find out above all the behavior of the human being during a prolonged spatial exploration. This simulation in Hawaiian territory will measure the psychological problems that may arise. These 6 researchers will not have contact with the external world; their transmissions will have about 20 min of lags, amongst many things.

«We hope to find the best way to select the astronauts, constitute a crew and support on long-duration space missions,» said the principal investigator, Kim Binstead, professor of the University of Hawaii.
